Basically I've noticed that a lot of very popular boys' names start with "J":
Jacob
Jack
John
Joseph
Jordan
but I couldn't figure out the same arrangement for girls' names. What do you think?
What's the most used first letter for girls' names?
I would have guessed it was the K/C sound, considering the popularity of names like Kaitlyn, Kayla, Kylie, and the like.
Luciella did an analysis, however, and discovered that the most popular first letter for girls' names is actually A.
Here's the link to her blog:
http://namestats.wordpress.com/2008/09/3...
She based her analysis on how many of the top 250 names start with each letter. It would be interesting to actually add up the number of girls named for each letter and see how close the results are. For example, last year 17,865 little girls were named Ava. Only 1,486 were named Angelica. However, she counted both Ava and Angelica as "1 A name," so they were given equal weight in her analysis.
Reply:I think either "A" names or "E" names are very common...
